Description
KineticsPro was changed to use IBW in non-obese patients to estimate
volume of distribution for traditionally dosed aminoglycosides. The use of IBW to estimate aminoglycoside volume of distribution appears to be more accurate than using TBW. The previous version used ABW in non-obese patients to estimate volume of distribution. In patients whose ABW > 1.2 x IBW, KineticsPro continues to use an obese dosing weight to estimate volume of distribution. For more information on KineticsPro’s methods and formulas, click here.

KineticsPro version 1.4 corrects a compatibility issue with Palm OS 5 in which time entries for steady-state calculations were converted to whole hours or were required to be entered as whole hours. The formula for the calculation of IBW in females was changed to the widely accepted equation of IBW = 45.5 + 2.3 (H - 60). IBW was previously calculated as IBW = 45 + 2.3 (H - 60).
